Provide responses based on the scenario
1. What were the strengths and opportunities of this collaborative partnership of three organisations that contributed to the success of the campaign in promoting themselves to stakeholders and holding back competitors for the same funding opportunities? (Min 100 words)
The three organizations were focused on creating a comprehensive program which helped in increasing the degree of awareness related to the increasing incidence of the homelessness of youth which can help in the development of a national form of education and outreach campaign through social and digital media. The prime strength involves creation of a mass outreach and the major opportunity involves encouraging the students to get involved in the activities and contribute towards becoming a part of the local communities. The strength of the organization was also involved in raising awareness among the youth who are homeless and it would help in developing a national education outreach campaign through use of digital media. |
2. How would Samir and the outreach team identify external information needs and how did they adapt communication strategies to suit the OASIS school’s engagement program? (Min 100 Words)
Samir was primarily involved in establishment of communication protocols for the engagement of the OASIS school. It is also important to identify the external information and develop suitable communication strategies which can help OASIS to adapt to the engagement program in an appropriate manner. The establishment of communication protocols was aided through the creation of Oasis documentary, teaching resources and organization of real world form of volunteering and local mission trips are also important aspects. The involvement of the local communities would also help Samir and his team to better identify the information needs of the external information program. The creation of a film titled “The Oasis” would illustrate a first hand experience as to how the Oasis Refuge operates and helps the youth across the street. The increased awareness of the campaign also succeeded in triggering the report of the Homeless youth by NYC. In the year 2008, the issue of youth homelessness was considered as a national agenda through the report launch of NYC. |
3. After reading this case scenario, watch the film and read the impact statement provided in the hyperlinks in the scenario. Part of Samir’s job role is to review communication practices for their effectiveness and obtain feedback from others. List at least 1 political, 1 economic, 1 social and 1 technological factor that should go into this review.
Complete the table below for your responses to this question (Min 200 words for the table)
Review of communication practices through feedback from others and assessment of outcomes.
Political | The presence of a democratic form of government upholds the fundamental rights of the people and ensures strict enforcement of the laws. This involves formal communication with public authorities and bureaucrats who can render support in upholding change in the organization. |
Economic | The high GDP growth rate of Australia implies a moderate standard of living with good quality life. However, the differences in the purchasing power parity of the people causes a majority of the people to live below the poverty line and a large section of the population are homeless. |
Social | The presence of a majority of youth in the population influences majority preferences and tastes. The economy has a vast section of the population who dwell below the poverty line and lack access to proper technology and education. The differences in the aspects of tastes and preference pattern also outlines the degree to which communication of the long term objectives would enable Samir to identify and review the process of communication. |
Technological | Advancements in the field of technology and digital marketing communications would help in creating a wider degree of outreach. The role of Samir in establishing communication protocols through documentary guide, teaching resources, real life form of volunteering and initiative for youth homelessness ambassador initiative should also be accounted for. |
4. When the video ‘THE OASIS’ was being filmed what legal and ethical considerations and disclosure would need to have been assessed before the film was released? (Min 100 words)
During the filming of the OASIS video, various legal and ethical considerations would have had to be assessed and this involves the attitude and perception of the filmmakers towards the issue of criticism such as contempt, respect, compassion and cynicism. The illustration of the homeless people across Australia and the manner in which they have been portrayed in OASIS is a significant aspect of consideration. The issue pertaining to youth homelessness was taken into accord and this led to launching of a comprehensive program for education and outreach which was executed in partnership with OASIS network of youth support and this was launched by the Minister of Social Housing. |

Communication Strategic planning | Brief description |
Communication strategy/methods | The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness among the homeless youth and ensure community engagement. The awareness among the young people in schools has remained the prime focus for ensuring and leading the peer driven change in the community. |
Identifying stakeholders | Internal: School teachers, students and local communities |
External: Homeless youth, local government and public authorities
Messages | The key message was aimed at increasing the awareness among the youth and engaging the community in order to reduce the volume of homelessness among the societal youth. The high degree of awareness among the youth is one of the prime reasons for leading a community which is peer driven. |
Purpose and what they hoped to achieve | The purpose was to reach out to an estimated audience of 1.3 million who would be spread across the cities and the regional markets. It also aimed at involving about 2000 participants through private screenings and corporate form of meetings. The introduction of the Caledonia foundation and the Shark foundation in the year 2010 launched the Atom study which was linked to the curriculum of the state and territory of every OASIS subject. The outreach strategy aimed at eradicating the issue of homelessness by taking into account the agenda of the NYC launch of the report during the week. Since the year 2008, it was observed that the role of the Federal government in association with the partnership on agreement of the homelessness would be involved in providing $5 billion for early intervention and prevention. |
Provide an example of an Organisation policy objective | For instance, the Red Shield school project had provided an opportunity for the students to gain an insight into experiencing youth homelessness by visiting a local centre and engaging in participation in a social forum which is involved in creating a community to discuss the issue. |
